Background

Dr Richard Smith published his first research paper in 1993. This exciting research explored the relationship between bone mineral density (bone strength) and different forms of exercise in elite athletes. This research went on to win the prestigious Hepburn memorial award at St Mary's medical school and it is from this that Dr Smith developed his interest in Osteoporosis and Sports medicine. Since then Dr Smith has published extensively in the fields of Rheumatology, musculoskeletal medicine and Sports medicine.

Dr Smith has also been principle investigator in national and international clinical trials, exploring new exciting medications for the treatment of Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Psoriatic arthritis, and Non-Radiographic spondyloarthropathy (inflammatory back pain).
